Dr. Cheryl Dye is a Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Clemson University and is the Director of the Institute for Engaged Aging (IEA). The IEA is a research institute which includes Faculty Associates across Clemson University and an Advisory Board of representatives of leading aging agencies in the state.

Dr. Elaine Amella has worked in the field of aging for over 30 years as a clinician (Geriatric Nurse Practitioner), a faculty member at three universities, and a researcher. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health for community and institutionally-based interventions to help caregivers support individuals with moderate or late-stage dementia, the USDA for the testing of rural nutrition and food safety training programs in senior centers around South Carolina, and ‘basic’ research related to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Kelly Franklin is the Administrative Coordinator for the Medical University of South Carolina’s Center on Aging as well as a freelance photographer. She is a member of the National Aging in Place Council and Chair of the Public Relations Committee for the Lowcountry Senior Network.

Dr. Shaun Owens, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of South Carolina where he directs the Healthy Aging Research and Technology (HART) Lab. His research focuses on the use of community-based research methods to develop and evaluate sustainable, technology-based interventions, products, and services for aging adults.

Eliza Ballou is the Research Assistant for Dr. Sue Levkoff ScD at the University of South Carolina. She works on projects including Tele-health, Mobile Health Technology, and Aging-in-Place. Eliza is an alumna of the University of South Carolina with BS in Biology.

Dr. Sue Levkoff, ScD, SM, MSW is Professor in the College of Social Work and SmartHOME® Endowed Chair in the SeniorSMART® Center of Economic Excellence. She is the President of the South Carolina Aging Research Network (SCARN) for the 2016-2017 year.

Dr. Jenay Beer, PhD, MA, is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of South Carolina where she directs the Assistive Robotics and Technology Laboratory, http://artlab.cse.sc.edu and is the Associate Director of Usability for SmartHOME.
Her research focus is in engineering psychology (also known as Human Factors) is her passion and she strives to ensure “the human is considered in the engineering equation.”

Dr. Melissa Bailey Taylor, DO, MPH, is a Geriatric Physician at Greenville Memorial Health System and is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has research experience in biomedical science, physical science, and pharmaceutical research. Dr. Taylor serves as a Medical Director of the Greenville County area for Agape Hospice where leads an interdisciplinary treatment team management and certify patients for hospice services.

Dr. Heather Anne Boger, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina with a research focus on Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Boger also serves as the Director of the College of Medicine Senior Mentor Program and Interim Director of the Center on Aging.
